Oaklawn Hospital’s Birth Center had a rather quiet New Year’s Day 2012, delivering just one baby, a 6lb-10oz boy, at 6:44 PM. As is tradition, the hospital gifted the new mother and baby with a gift basket full of wonderful newborn items. The mother and baby, who are from Branch County and patients at Oaklawn Medical Group – Tekonsha, declined the traditional “First Baby of Year” photo, but members of the BirthCenter staff were happy to pose with the “First Baby Basket.”
Team members (l-r) are: Sara Birch, Heather Beck, Cari Gray, Cindy Rathbun, Jenny Burns, and Twyla Newsome.
Hospitals generally experience reduced volumes during economically depressed times. High unemployment means fewer individuals and families have health insurance and that often translates into people being slower to seek medical care. The Oaklawn Hospital Birth Center has not noticed that trend.
