The Oaklawn Outpatient Diabetes Self-Management Education Program was recently named an accredited diabetes education program by the American Association of diabetes Educators. This will allow residents in and around Calhoun County increased access to critical diabetes education services.
Diabetes education is a collaborative process through which people with or at risk for diabetes gain the knowledge and skills needed to modify behavior and successfully self-manage the disease and its related conditions.
The diabetes self-management and education program will be held at Oaklawn Hospital on a monthly basis. Upcoming dates for the classes are:
September 7, 14, 21 and 28
October 5, 12, 19 and 26
November 2, 9, 16 and 23
December 7, 14, 21 and 28
Timira Perry, RN, BSN, CDE is the certified diabetes educator who will direct the classes. "Our program is honored to have received this accreditation from the American Association of Diabetes Educator," said Perry. "We're located in the office of Oaklawn Endocrinology where we're dedicated to providing both exceptional diabetes treatment and self-management education and training for all adults, 18 and older."
