Date & Time

Location
Oaklawn Life Improvement Center, 13697 15 Mile Rd.
New mothers can get back in shape while having fun with their babies through the "Movin' Mommies" postpartum exercise program.
The class is intended for new mothers with children from 6-weeks old to approximately 1-year old. Women who have had C-sections or complicated deliveries may need to wait longer than usual before beginning. To attend, a participant must receive verbal approval from a physician or a physician's nurse.
Through the program mothers can work on weight loss and build muscle tone, all while bonding and playing with their new baby. Exercises including lifting, squatting, reaching and even Pilates-style exercises, all involving the infants in a playful manner. In addition, the program helps babies with developmental reflexes, encourages the recovers of the mothers' abdominal and pelvic floor muscles, helps control physical pains associated with pregnancy, and helps mothers practice proper body mechanics when interacting with their children.
Participants should bring a Pilates-style mat or a thick blanket to lie on; a blanket to wrap the baby and to support the child's head as needed, depending on the child's age and strength. Also, a boppy-style infant pillow may come in handy.
Cost: $3 per pair, child care for older siblings is available for a nomial fee.
Those interested in registering for the program may contact the Sports Rehabilitation Center at 269-781-6030.
